서울대학교 물리해양학연구실
Major themes of physical oceanography include dynamics of ocean currents on various spatial scales, temporal variability of these currents, distribution of heat, salt and other water properties and their transport through the ocean basins, and interactions between open oceans and marginal seas. We explore physical processes in the ocean, interaction of the ocean with the atmosphere, and ocean's role in the Earth's climate and ecosystems, mainly based on field observation using research vessels and data analysis using statistical tools.
We are looking for motivated students or postdocs with a keen interest and solid background in ocean sciences, physics, mathematics, or computer science. Please take a look at our recent publications below to give you an idea of current projects. However, we welcome those who think and work independently, so that they can challenge and extend the group's expertise and interests.

Volume Transport through the Korea Strait 대한해협 수송량
우리나라 부산과 일본 하마다를 연결하는 해저동축케이블이 통신케이블로서의 역할을 다한 후, 1990년대부터 과학적인 목적으로 사용되고 있습니다. 패러데이 법칙에 의해서 해수의 운동이 케이블에 유도 전압을 일으키기 때문에, 전압 자료를 바탕으로 대한해협 수송량의 시간 변동성을 연구할 수 있습니다. 기술적인 문제로 2017년 5월에 관측이 중단되었지만 2020년 11월부터 다시 자료를 얻고 있습니다.
Sea-going Experiment 승선관측
동중국해 쿠로시오(2018- )
일본 가고시마대학교, 한국해양과학기술원과 공동으로 동중국해 쿠로시오 관측 연구를 수행하고 있습니다.
이와 관련하여 매년 6월 가고시마대학교 실습선인 가고시마-마루 승선 관측에 참여하고 있습니다.
인도양 세이셸레스-차고스 수온약층 언덕(2019- )
한국해양과학기술원 연구선 이사부호를 활용한 열대 남서인도양 용승 변동 관측 연구에 참여하고 있습니다. 2023년부터는 라디오존데 관측을 통한 용승해역 해양-대기 상호작용 연구도 시작하였습니다.
쿠로시오 확장역(2018, 2019)
2018년 여름과 2019년 가을에 한국해양과학기술원 쿠로시오 확장역 관측에 참가하였습니다.
연구선 이사부호를 타고 거제 장목에서 출항하여 바다 위에서 한 달 정도를 보낸 후 다시 거제 장목으로 입항한 탐사입니다.
우리나라 주변해역(2022)
'한반도 주변해 해양기후변화와 생지화학과정 변화 진단 예측 연구' 관련하여 우리나라 주변해역 관측에 참여하였습니다.
